President’s role
The President is paid an annual stipend from the unincorporated medical staff association
- Claim 30 minutes for reviewing meeting documents prior to meeting
- Creates a culture of active and constructive governance table engagement including the facilitation of open, candid dialogue and healthy debate
- Presides at all meetings of the Society and of the Directors, these include but not limited to:
- Board of Directors, UHNBC Facility Engagement Working Group, Quarterly Medical Staff Association, Quarterly Medical Staff Association and University Hospital of Northern BC (UHNBC) Northern Health, President’s Council, UHNBC Medical Advisory Committee, Northern Interior Medical Advisory Committee, Joint Leadership Committee
- Provides a written monthly update to UHNBC Facility Engagement Working Group
- Convene and chair all meetings of the general medical staff / physician society and keeps discussion on topic
- Annual General Meeting: Plan and chair, prepare report
- Ensure governance table adheres to its constitution and bylaws, rules, mission, vision and goals
- Supervises, builds and maintains a productive relationship with the senior staff lead
- Is available to senior staff lead and other staff for consultation purposes
- Acts as the governance table spokesperson
- Prepares agenda in partnership with senior staff lead and with input from Directors
- Encourages participation of Directors at governance table meetings
- Represents the collective interests of the membership, not their own personal agenda
- Attends external health authority or community meetings to represent the MSA
- Evaluates effectiveness of governance table decision-making through board self-assessments
- Together with Directors, conducts performance review for senior staff lead
- Serves as an ex officio member of committees as required and maintains contact with committee chairs
- Recognizes member contributions to governance table work
- Acts as a signing officer for other documents (e.g. contracts)
- Plays the leading role in MSA events
- Facilitates communication between the MSA and the health authority
- Addresses conflicts of interest and interpersonal dynamics
- If disciplinary actions are required, communicates with member(s) to deliver message
- Orientation: Knowledge transfer of role with Vice President (6 months before term starts)
- Ensures delegation of responsibilities among governance table Directors
- For electronic funds transfers, together with one other Director, acts as a signing / approval officer
