Physician Lead's role

Key Responsibilities

  1. Building relationships with medical staff:

    • Interacting internally with the medical staff executives, physicians and departments to identify opportunities to facilitate physician engagement;
    • Recruit medical staff members to opportunities identified that contribute to physician engagement;
    • Liaise with medical staff members on matters that they have identified as important.
  2. Collaborate with key external stakeholders:

    • Specialist Services Committee, other Medical Staff Associations, Divisions of Family Practice and others to identify potential opportunities; and
    • Supporting the development of constructive and collaborative relationships between the medical staff and Northern Health executive and staff.
  3. Governance related work:

    • Promotes the PGMSA vision, mission, values and strategic goals;
    • Reports to the medical staff board by regularly sharing information on issues and progress at quarterly Board of Directors meetings;
    • Reports to the UHNBC Facility Engagement Working Group by regularly sharing information on issues and progress at Working Group meetings as required;
    • Chairperson of sub committees (as required);
    • Regular attendance at Medical Staff Association meetings;
    • Provides a clinical context to assist the Project Manager, Facility Engagement;
    • Attend the Specialist Services Committee, Physician Quality Improvement Steering Committee and / or Joint Leadership Committee (as required); and
    • When required, together with the Project Manager, Facility Engagement score UHNBC FEWG project applications using the ‘Project Selection and Prioritization Matrix’ and present results to the Working Group.
